5 make-up essentials

Hi my pretty berries,

So imagine this, you’re stuck in a situation where you’re only able to take 5 items from your make-up collection. This doesn’t include tools or anything like that but just make-up products in general.

What would you pick? Well, here are my Top 5 make-up essentials that I absolutely need to go further in life.

1. Chapstick/lip balm – Burt’s Bees Lip Balm                                                                                burts beesI cannot live without my lip balms and I generally like all kind of moisturizing lip balms but one of my all-time favourites are the Burt’s Bees Lip Balms. Even though I have tons of different lip balms like TONS! I always find myself going back to this every single time. It keeps your lips moisturized and it doesn’t smell funky. If in doubt, Vaseline always works too.

2. Concealer – Mac Pro Longwear Concealer

prolong wear concealer

In love with this concealer! that’s that, I just couldn’t stop using my Mac Pro Longwear Concealer for blemishes and my dark circles. It literally stays on all day and it doesn’t really need to be set with powder but I do anyway (force of habit..) I gotta say though that it sets pretty quickly and the pump deposits too much product than what I would need but I can look pass that because the concealer inside is the bomb diggity!!

3. Face powder/Foundation – Bare Minerals Loose Powder

bare minerals

If I ever get in a situation where I can only pick ONE item as my foundation then I would definitely go for the powder version. It has a more light finish and gives it that “no make-up make-up look” and it also controls the oils in my face. I have used the Bare Minerals Loose Powder for 2 years and I never had any problems with it. In fact, it is my go-to foundation if I’m having a bad skin day or breaking out because I know my skin is not sensitive to the Bare Minerals Line and I know that my skin won’t get any worse.

4. Eye brow pencil – Maybelline Define-A-Brow

AAAhhh eyebrows…I have to fill in my eyebrows…Correction: I MUST FILL IN MY EYEBROWS! It just completes me and I have a slight obsession with it. The Maybelline Define-A-Brow is a perfect dupe for the Anastasia pencil that they sell for like $20+ dollars and I am just not willing to spend that much money especially when I know I have to re-purchase them so often. At least, the one I use is under $10 and can be found in most drugstores.

5. Mascara – Lancome Hypnose Drama – Instant Full Body Volume

I saved the best for last and I know it’s a bit hypocritical of me to pick a high-end mascara when I just mentioned that the Anastasia Eyebrow pencil is not worth the money BUT hear me out, I just haven’t found the ultimate mascara in the drugstore that I can honestly say I love and would repurchase because to be honest I have tons of drugstore mascaras and none really stood out to me compared to my Lancome Hypnose Drama. It does everything I need it to do; from lengthening to volumizing all while making it look not so clumpy and spidery looking. It is also very very black and holds my curl very well. In conclusion, I think it is worth the money just until I find a cheaper alternative.

Okay! That’s it for me today and I hope everyone’s 2015 is starting off really good and let me know what would be your essential make-up products you absolutely cannot live without. I love reading all your comments and your “likes” absolutely makes my day!=D See you on my next blog post.

Face Masks 101

Hello my pretty berries,

I thought I would talk to you about face masks. I’m not much of a professional when it comes to skincare but this is just how I do it and it’s been working fine for me. Basically, face masks comes in a gamut of brands that does different things, looks differently, smells differently and feels differently. There are even mask that comes in a creamy/lotion form or powder form or facial sheets. I guess my point is that the choices are endless with different purposes. The most important part in this process is how you prep your face prior to applying the face mask. For me, I like to give my face a really good scrub (I will talk about different kind of face scrubs in another blog) in order to remove all the dead skin and helps the masks to perform better. Then, if I have the extra time, I would grab some simmering water and put it in a bowl large enough that I can put my face over it . This will allow to open up my pores, again, to further help the face mask perform and I get the most benefit this way. Sometimes, I would put in green tea bags or those tablets that you can buy at Lush which are amazing!

Just click on the pictures to see where you can buy these face masks.

I like all the Freeman face masks line but this one is my absolute favourite. Not just because it smells like chocolate heaven but it actually brighten your face and minimizes your pores. I’ve had this for a while now and I’m just halfway though the tube so I mean it’s a really good buy and it’s a drugstore product so it’s easy to find.

I gotta tell you that your face will feel really minty and refresh overtime you use it. I believe I got mine at Sally’s when I was down in the U.S. probably 1.5 years ago and I still have more than half the tub left and I use this at least once a week. It does have a greenish colour that may be a bit unpleasant at first but after a while I don’t mind it anymore. As for the smell, it doesn’t really smell anything specific but I guess if I would describe it, I would say it smells like minty clay?

St. Ive’s products are very affordable and can easily be found in any drugstores. I’ve used many of their products but I’ve used the “Timeless Skin” mask the longest and I have an extra one as a back up because I’m scared I will run out of it. It extracts all the gunk out of your face and leaves you with baby soft skin; what else can you ask for!?

I am a true believer of this brand and I swear by all their skincare too I just wish that I don’t have to always order it online because shipping cost too much after a while. I am trying to save it so I only have to use it when my skin is really bad or breaking out or when I have a party to go to because it’s not as easy to get compared to my drugstore products. Anyhow, the product itself is amazing to my skin and the kaolin clay in it helps to draw out all the impurities and nourishes your face at the same time. I love love love love this! If there’s one thing you would want to get then I highly suggest you get this mask. Plus, it’s an organic product (the whole company focuses on organic products) which means that they don’t use any preservatives or other additives that are unnecessary or will irritate your skin. Okay, I can go on and on and on so I will just stop here and possibly do a big haul when I make a re-order of some of the products I love from Michael Todd.

This is a more recent discovery but I already love it. I mainly got this because it was getting really cold and my skin is getting really dry (more dry than it already is) so I panicked and went on a hunt for some moisturizing mask because all my masks are pretty much meant for drawing out impurities out of your skin and they all make my skin a bit dry after I use them. I went to the Body Shop because they had a buy 2 get 1 free sale so of course I was all over that deal and I pretty much got this baby for free! I tried this that night and it immediately replenished my skin, it feels like my skin got a boost of moisture so the next time I tried it I put it on my face as per usual and then I slept with the mask on (it does dry to a point that it is comfortable to sleep with it) and I woke up with softer skin than I’ve ever had. All in all, I would recommend applying a thin layer of it on your face and neck and sleeping with it to get the most benefit that you can get.

That is all from me today my pretty berries, I hope you enjoyed my post and don’t forget to comment and like =)

Best of e.l.f make-up brushes

Hello my pretty berries,

Before we get started I wanted to mention that the brushes that I will talk about are the ones that I have tried and can honestly say that I love. I have already talked a little bit about e.l.f. cosmetics in my previous post. As you can tell, I am a big fan of their products and that includes their make-up brushes.

e.l.f. Studio Kabuki Face Brush85011_kabuki-face-brush_900

It’s a synthetic bristle which is VERY soft and great for setting your make-up. I had mine for probably 2 years now and it’s still working very well and it hasn’t shed on me either.

e.l.f. Studio Stipple Brush & e.l.f. Studio Small Stipple Brush84025_900px_100011 84015_900px_100011

I friggin love both of these brushes! I use this for foundations, concealers, cream blushes, cream bronzers, etc. There are so much uses for something that cost $3.00 each.

e.l.f. Studio Complexion Brush11181_84002_A_900px_deptImg.jpg._deptImg

Great for setting your make-up and sometimes I would use this for bronzer if I want a bit of an overall glow without the intense contouring.

e.l.f. Studio Powder Brush11182_84003_A_900px_deptImg.jpg._deptImg

I’ve tried using this for both liquid and powder foundations in which they both apply really even on my face. It doesn’t get streaky either.

e.l.f. Studio Blush Brush11515R

I actually prefer to using this for applying highlighters because I think it’s a bit to tiny for my face if I use this to apply blush.

e.l.f. Studio Angled Blush Brush

Another brush that I actually have a different use for which is for my bronzer. The angled part of the brush really helps with making that nice contour without it being too harsh and it makes blending easier and faster.

e.l.f. Studio Angled Eyeliner Brush84013_900px_100011

Such a simple tool but I cannot believe how much I rely on this whenever I apply my eyeliners. I would say that it works great for gel eyeliner.

e.l.f. Essential Blending Eye Brush10100_1803_A_900px_deptImg.jpg._deptImg

Blending, blending, blending, blending is the key to beautiful eye make-ups and in order to blend you need a blending blush and this brush is the perfect size. I should buy 5 more of this. By the way, all the “Essential” line is $1.00! I mean how can you not but spares just in case the apocalypse come at least you can keep on blending your eyeshadows? HAHA

e.l.f. Essential Eye Crease Brush1823_100011

I like to smudge my liner with eyeshadows and this is the brush I rely on. There’s not much to say but that it’s awesome and it’s what I use as part of my make-up routine almost all the time.

And that’s the wrap! That’s all my current favourite make-up brushes. If you have any favourite brushes that I should check out be sure to let me know on the comments below.

Don’t forget to like and follow =)

Top 5 uses for tea tree oil

Hello my pretty berries,

You know how much I rely on this little boy. I pretty much have all my skincare infused with tea tree oil and it sure helps control the break outs without over drying my skin, but did you know that there are many other uses for tea tree oil. I have listed below the top 5 ways that I personally like to use tea tree oil.

Tea Tree Oil

  1. Acne

Okay, so this is the most obvious reason why I would even use tea tree oil. We all breakout and it is the most annoying and sometimes painful thing we have to go through. What’s really good about this is that it’s more on the natural side compared to salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide, which can be too harsh and drying to the skin (especially the face).

  1. Insect Bites

Using tea tree oil is a better alternative if you don’t have those over the counter bug bites topical creams. I find that it reduces itchiness just as well as other insect bite medications out there and it’s cheaper. Also, it calms the affected area, which means that it can help reduce the pain and redness and further speed up the healing process. I’m pretty sure that you can even buy the tea tree oil in a roller ball packaging, which is just amazing!

  1. Cuts and Wounds

Tea tree oil disinfects that exposed cut or wound which will prevent bacteria from causing any infection. Also, if you need to wash out the inflamed area then you may dilute the oil with warm water and use a towel to gently clean it.

  1. Eczema

During the cold winter months, my eczema usually shows up and makes me all itchy from all the dryness of my skin. When I came across this product, I started dabbing little amounts on the areas where I have dry patches (I know its gross LOL) using a cotton swab and that works just perfectly for me. If you want to try this on yourself, you may want to dilute it first and try it in a small area before going all out with it.

  1. Ear infections

Okay, before anyone judges, I got an ear piercing a while back that got infected which was really hurting. So I went to the place I got my piercings and the lady there told me that I should use tea tree oil to clean and disinfect around the pierced ear. I am kind of guilty for this because I wasn’t cleaning the fresh new piercing as often as I should to begin with so there you have it, don’t be like me and neglect your new piercings.

Alright! So that’s all of my personal top uses for tea tree oil. I’m sure that there are many many more other things that you can use this product and if you know of any other fantastic ways to use tea tree oil please share them on the comment down below.

Skincare Routine ~ Night Time

Hello my pretty berries,

I wanted to make up for the lack of blog posts by posting up my evening skincare routine before this week is over. This is pretty match a part 2 of my skincare. I have already described my skin type on my daytime skin care routine blog post.

You will see below the steps I take before I go to sleep. Although, I gotta be honest I do have my lazy days where I just don’t go through my entire evening routine but I still try to do as much as I can even when I am absolutely exhausted. Anyhow, I just think about breaking out and that usually pushes me to stop being so lazy and go through my entire routine.

I will try to link the websites at the end of the blog post where you can find the products that I am currently using. I will try to link sites that ships to Canada (since I am from Canada) or sites that usually offers real free shipping to Canada. Most of my products can easily be found at local drugstores (Shoppers Drug Mart, London Drugs, Rexall, etc.) or at Sephora or at Mac Counters.

Evening Routine:

Maybelline Clean Express

Maybelline Clean express make up remover

If I were wearing make-up that day then I would remove my make-up first and then continue with my normal evening routine. I remove my eye make-up first using this Maybelline Clean Express Make-up Remover with a cotton pad, which works just fine for me. It removes even waterproof mascara and eyeliners.

Pond’s Cold Cream

Pond’s cold cream

Once all my eye make-up has been removed, I used this cold cream on my skin (make sure your face is dry when you apply the product) and massage it all over my face and neck area. I have a cloth that I soak in warm water and I use that to wipe away the entire product off my face.

Mac Cleanse Off Oil

MAC Cleanse Off Oil

This is another option that I like to use when I am super lazy and cannot be bothered with using eye make-up remover and then the cold cream. The Cleanse off oil removes everything!! The only problem I kind of have with it is that it irritates my eyes and makes my sight a bit cloudy but it does go away after a minute or two.

Bioderma cleansing water

Okay, so this is what I use when I’m super super super lazy or tired and I just want to go to sleep. It does work like magic and removes every trace of make-up and dirt in my face. Sometimes, if I’m just home and I felt like I need to refresh my face then I would put some of this on a cotton pad and quickly clean my face.

Tea Tree Cool & Creamy Wash

Tea Tree cool & creamy wash

If my skin is breaking out or about to have break outs then I usually use this cleanser. It’s infused with tea tree oil, which helps with pimples and acne scarring. The only downside is the smell, which is mainly tea tree oil, but I got used to it and it actually doesn’t bother me as much now.

Tea Tree Skin Clearing Facial Wash

Body Shop Tea Tree Skin Clearing Facial Wash

I usually alternate this with my Tea tree cool & creamy wash depending on how I feel on that day. This product is quite new so I am still trying to get a feel out of it but so far it hasn’t totally dried off my skin. In comparison, to my Tea tree cool & creamy wash which is absolutely “creamy” as the product labeled it to be and it doesn’t dry out my skin so I can use it every night.

Lush Lip Scrub in Bubblegum

Lush lip scrub in Bubblegum

We can’t forget our lips! I have very dry lips and it’s gotta be scrubbed every night. The bubblegum flavor is not my fave but I have it so I’m going to finish it. I am thinking of getting the peppermint/mint flavor next time. Let me know if you have tried it before!

Michael Todd Blue Green Algae Toner

Michael Todd Blue Green Algae Toner

After all the cleansing and removing all the dirt and make-up on my face then I go ahead and use this toner to further remove more of the dirt/make-up residue plus it actually helps neutralize the Ph all over your face and it is alcohol free. I just use a cotton pad and wipe it all over my face and neck. I love love this product and I have tried other Michael Todd products before and I have loved all of them. Unfortunately, I finished them already so I can’t show you anymore but if I make a new order of Michael Todd Products then I will probably do an updated skincare routine.

Kiehl’s Clearly Corrective Dark Spot Solution

Kiehl’s Clearly Corrective Dark Spot Solution

I use this basically every morning and night, which I have mentioned in my pervious post. This is a product that I cannot live without!! I have noticed such a difference in my skin’s texture, lessened/lightened my acne scars and helped to even out my skin tone. I just need a pea-sized amount of the product and pat it around my face and it does absorb really quick.

Ole Henriksen Fresh Start Eye Creme

Ole Henriksen Fresh Start Eye Crème

I really like eye creams and this one really does its job. I think this may be a daytime eye cream but I found it too thick for morning so I switched it to my nighttime routine and it works quite well with moisturizing. It is on the expensive side so I don’t know if I would want to repurchase but we’ll see how it goes.

Tea Tree Blemish Fade Night Lotion

Tea Tree Blemish Fade Night Lotion

Another Tea tree product (can you tell I like anything infused with tea tree oil..haha). Again, it does smell like tea tree oil and a lot of people doesn’t necessarily like that smell but it doesn’t really linger so I’m okay with it. It does help with breakouts and prevents any new ones from popping out.

Josie Maran 100% Pure Argan Oil

Josie Maran 100% Pure Argan Oil

I apply a drop or two of this after I apply my Tea tree blemish fade night lotion. I gotta say this may be another holy grail for me and I’m almost certain that I will be repurchasing this product.

Derma e Vitamin E skin oil

Derma e Vitamin e skin oil

Okay, I know this may be over the top but I only apply this every other day and I gently massage it all over my face and my neck. This pure vitamin e oil greatly helps with any scarring and it does help to keep your face looking youthful. Also, if I do use this product then I would skip the Josie Maran 100% Pure Argan Oil.

Etude House Sleeping Pack

Etude House Sleeping Pack

This is pretty much an overnight mask that I put on after my eye cream, lotion and face oil have been applied and absorbed in my skin. I only use this 3-4 times a week. I would put just a pea size amount of the sleeping pack and that would be enough to cover my entire face and neck. Once applied, I usually have to wait around 5 minutes for the product to sink it to my skin before I can go to sleep. Then when I wake up, my face feels so moisturized and plump.

Life Clear Action, Holista Tea Tree Oil & Mario Badescu Dryng Lotion

Life Clear Action, Tea tree oil, Mario Badescu drying lotion

Now, if I were breaking out that day then I would use any of these three products. I like to alternate my acne treatments mainly because I think that if I keep using the same one, my skin would get use to it and it won’t be as effective anymore. When I do this process, I feel that my breakouts go away a lot faster.

Kiehl’s Lip Balm #1

I almost forgot the lip balm. So I pretty much use whatever lip balm I can find. My favourite right now is the Kiehl’s Lip Balm #1

So that is all of it for my evening routine and I hope that you enjoyed this post. I would love to know what your holy grail products when it comes to skincare so please post them down on the comments below.

Current Skincare routine ~ Daytime

Hello my pretty berries,

I thought I would start by talking to you a little bit about my skin type. The journey with my skincare seems to be a never-ending discovery of good and bad finds. Since I was a child, I’ve had very sensitive skin and I cannot use just any kind of products that had any harsh ingredients or scents in it. In fact, my skin was so bad I had to get prescriptions from my dermatologist that went on until I got older.

Fast-forward to today; I have learned more about my own skin and what it likes and what it hates. I don’t go to a dermatologist anymore but I do still have to take great care of my skin; especially my face.

My face is still sensitive and dry which usually means you can get premature wrinkles a lot earlier than a person that has oily/combination skin types. Isn’t that scary?! So I really focus on moisturizing and making sure that my face is always plump and I never miss putting on an eye cream (we do not want them wrinkles too early!!)

Below are the products that I am recently using and I’ve also given you different options that I usually alternate depending on how I’m feeling on that day.

If you have the same skin type as me, let me know if there are other products out there that I should try out because I like trying out new things and maybe review them for all of you!! I’m on the look out for anything organic or natural.

Morning Skincare Routine:

Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser

Cetaphil face wash

This is a very gentle cleanser that I have used for many many years and it’s just great for mornings when I just woke up in the morning and just need to kind of refresh my skin.

Tea Tree Cool & Creamy Wash

Tea tree cool & creamy wash

If my skin is breaking out or about to have break outs then I usually use this cleanser in the morning. It’s infused with tea tree oil, which helps with pimples and acne scarring. The only downside is the smell, which is mainly tea tree oil, but I got used to it and it actually doesn’t bother me as much now.

Mario Badescu Facial Spray

Mario Badescu facial spray

I usually spray this all over my face after I wash my face in the morning. I also like this for times when my skin feels a bit dehydrated and I just do a couple spritz of this on my face and I feel so refreshed.

Kiehl’s Clearly Corrective Dark Spot Solution

Kiehl’s spot corrector serum

This is a holy grail for me and I cannot live without this product! I’ve purchased this a couple times and they do last for a very long time since you only need a pea size for your entire face.

Cetaphil Moisturizing Lotion

Cetaphil face lotion

Another holy grail product for me. I have used this lotion for many many years (just like my Cetaphil gentle cleanser) and you can never go wrong with this lotion. It never breaks me out and it keeps my skin super moisturized. I also use this on my body since I love it so much.

Physician’s Formula Wrinkle Smoother Eyecream

Physician’s formula eye cream

I gotta say this product has all the hype for the make-up products but their skincare is okay. It’s not that bad but I feel like there is nothing amazing happening to my skin when I use this but for now it works great for my morning routine since it is quite thin in consistency and it absorbs super quickly. I am on the hunt for a really good moisturizing day cream so holla at me if you have any eye cream products I should try.

Kiehl’s Lip Balm #1

Kiehl’s lip balm #1

Of course I can’t forget the lip balm, which I am kind of addicted to. It’s something that I switch up a lot just because I lose them in my purse or some magical lip balm fairy takes it.

That’s all of it! I try to keep my skincare routine quick and easy in the morning because I am not a morning person at all. Also, I have been really good at finishing up my products first before I go and buy new ones so that way I don’t overwhelm my skin with too much products.

I will be posting up my Evening Skincare routine hopefully before the end of the week.
